Please, Please Vote for me !

"If you want me to win, please, please vote for me.
Please type xx xxxx and send it to yyyy.
Please send as much SMSs as you can."

ufff, I am fed up listening to the that statement multiple times in almost every 'Talent Hunt'(?) programme on TV. Almost every so called 'Talent Hunt' programme boils down to participants pleading to the audience to vote for them to make them win!

Talent should always be judged by a team of experts in the respective field. Experts can appropriately recongnise the ability of the participant.

At present, all these 'Talent Hunt' programmes have become a 'joke'. They neither stress on the talent of the participant, nor they allow him/her to be judged by a panel of judges. Though experts are present, they are just to 'praise' or 'criticise very little' the participant. These programmes involve make overs for the participants with designer clothes and colored hair, with those brands promptly being displayed in the background! The 'talent' takes a back seat.

After every performance, the participant regardless of whether he/she performed good or bad, pleads to the audience to vote for him/her to save from elimination. Everybody in the audience is not able to judge the talent of the participant. They can neither catch the participant's mistakes nor judge their capability. Most of them go by their looks. Now comes the regionalism which plays a 'monster' role. People vote for the participant who hails from their region regardless of whether he/she was good or bad.
People in Assam and Meghalaya are holding rallies to ask people over there to vote for the participant from their region. Adding to this even the participants ask for votes in their mother tongue to get votes from 'their' people. Disgusting!

The winners of last seasons of these 'Talent shows' are no where today. They are no where to be seen. Why? because they were not the best talents! Where is Abhijeet Sawant? where is Sandeep Acharya? Where is Sanjaya Malakar? They were stars made by the TV rather than the audience. They will be stars till that season of the programme ends.

On the other side, the programmes where the winners were judged by a panel of judges have produced the best talents. 'Meri Awaaz Suno' gave highly talented Sunidhi Chauhan to the music industry. 'TVS SaReGaMa' brought Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Archana Udupa to the lime light. Even the present 'Ede Tumbi Haduvenu' on ETV Kannada is bringing the best child talents to the people with children being judged by experts in the music field. All those programmes have/had made people wait anxiously every week for them to enjoy the performances by the best talents.

Almost every talent hunt show is just behind the money and not the talent. Talent show is being made into 'Audience Voting' show by the big money, the cellular operators are offering to the programme. These programmes are clocking more TRPs because people want to see 'their' candidate winning. Is there end to these 'Audience Voting' Talent hunts?

And now, this 'Talent Hunt' has spilled over to 'Wonders of the World'! New7Wonders is asking people of the globe to select the 'Next 7 Wonders of the World' among many Ancient Monuments of the world. People of a country are voting en masse to the monument of their country. Indians are including Taj Mahal in the 7 wonders they are choosing, Greeks are including for Acropolis of Athens, Brazilians Christ the Redeemer in Rio, Chinese The Great Wall of China.

First of all making a select few as 'Wonders of the world' itself is not justice. Every monument is wonder on its own. Pyramids cannot be compared to Taj Mahal. Great Wall of China cannot be compared with Macha Pichu of Peru. Upon this, electing them through voting in global level just makes people high on regionalism rather than making them select the truly great ones. I am sure almost all of them wouldnt have seen every participant in the monument list. If Acropolis fails to get into among the seven finally, nobody can say its not a wonder!

Already beauty contests like Miss World have become prey to this 'Audience Voting'. I just hope the day will never come when the winners of the Gymnastics or Diving or Fencing in Olympics are not selected by the global audience vote!

audience voting for gymnastics and diving in Olympics .. can't imagine ...
if this continues, voting may happen for selecting cricket team or audience may decide whether batsman is Out or Not-Out.

one correction in ur post, sonu nigam was a host of 'Sa Re Ga Ma', his name should mentioned be mentioned separately.
